How To Use Apps And Technology In Your Job Search - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

How To Use Apps And Technology In Your Job Search In the modern day, there is seemingly an application out there for everyone, no matter what they are doing. Whether you’re a business looking to rebrand using https://www.templafy.com/corporate-rebranding-process/ or a stay at home parent attempting new recipes, there is an app out there for everyone. And the same applies to those of you seeking a job or career move. So with that in mind, we are going to take a look at some the employment apps and tech out there and how they might benefit you. LinkedIn The most logical place to start when discussing applications for job seekers is LinkedIn. While this is another form of social media, it is much more than that. LinkedIn should be seen as a gateway into the hearts and minds of employers; never before has there been such unadulterated access to potential employers as there is now with LinkedIn. Making the most of your opportunities on LinkedIn can come in a variety of methods. For starters, you should make sure your profile is optimised for success. This means letting recruiters know you’re open to discussion by adjusting the settings on your profile, writing an eye catching headline and summary of yourself and using an appropriate photograph. Recruiters are constantly searching LinkedIn for potential candidates so you should make sure you are someone they recognise. You should also keep the app for this social media on your phone and check in daily. Job Search Apps One of the joys of technology is that you are able to take your life and plans with you wherever you go, and that applies when you are job searching. If you are actively looking for a career move, then you should be keeping in touch with all the latest happenings in your industry. The fortunate thing for the modern corporate employee is that while they might be busy with work or other distractions, there are hundreds of free job applications that allow you to search and apply on the move. But which ones are the best to use? Judging which job search application is the best really depends on what you are looking to do. Some people like to make the most of recruitment apps like Reed and Total Jobs. However, these options aren’t for everybody, especially if you prefer a hands on approach. One application that you might want to consider is JobAware, and one of the reasons for that is its integration with LinkedIn. We have already discussed how important that particular form of social media is to someone seeking career change, so it only makes sense to use an app that combines with it to build a comprehensive plan for your next role. Another way that technology has innovated the way employers and candidates interact is through Switch. Using methods similar to dating apps, Switch gives you the chance to declare an interest in a position, thus making your profile available to the hiring manager who can then choose to contact you directly to discuss the role.

5 Steps to Re-Inventing Your Career - Hallie Crawford

5 Steps to Re-Inventing Your Career STEP ONE: Define your talents: Uncover what your unique talents are, how you stand out from your peers in industry, and identify your transferable skills. Transferable skills are those that can translate to other industries. Action steps: Take 30 mins with your resume this week, with someone else alongside, identify unique skills Spend an hour interviewing a friend, a family member, a former co-worker about “your greatest strength” ask them what they think it is STEP TWO: Brainstorm additional career ideas: Research and brainstorm other career paths you can take with your talents and experience. Examples: if you’re an architect you could look into green construction, if you were a banker who investigated and researched fraud cases you could look into police work or becoming a lawyer (both things that involve research and uncovering facts). Action steps: Spend an hour this week searching the ONET database (online.onetcenter.org) using keywords and skills Search monster and careerbuilder for job postings in specific industries to get a feel for what’s out there in those industries and if they would be a fit for you. Indeed.com is another useful site Talk with friends and family members at social events this week; ask them to brainstorm career ideas with you STEP THREE: Research your ideas with a fine tooth comb: Find out what it takes to get into those industries you’re considering: what skills, experience or expertise is required. Do you either have those already, or can you get them by volunteering somewhere-taking a class-becoming certified in something? Are you qualified for these jobs or can you become so, how realistic is this? Make an assessment, then make a plan. Action steps: Search monster and careerbuilder for job postings in specific industries to get a feel for what’s out there in those industries and if they would be a fit for you. Indeed.com is another useful site. Print out those job descriptions, do research on people who work there through their LinkedIn profiles. STEP FOUR: Tailor your resume to those jobs: A well-written professional resume is priceless. If yours is not, get a resume writer. Have one master template resume, then use that to create different resumes for the different industries you’re looking at. Action steps: Review your resume and decide if you can revise it on your own, or if you need help. STEP FIVE: Apply for the jobs: Be honest about your past but also able to sell yourself. Be confident in your skills and abilities and know how to market yourself effectively. Show them how you do qualify for those positions, even though this is a transition for you. Action steps: Practice responding to interview questions in front of the mirror. Some good sample questions can be found on about.com. They have a great career section. Atlanta Career Coach

Holiday Bonus More Democrats vs Republicans Expect Extra Pay

Holiday Bonus More Democrats vs Republicans Expect Extra Pay Unemployment rates may be down, but that doesn’t tell the whole story of how the economy is doing on the ground level. Wage growth has been cripplingly slow, and it’s no secret the holiday bonus has become an endangered species of late, despite ballooning CEO pay that even Donald Trump has condemned. This year, only 22% of Americans expect any extra money come the holidays, in the form of a holiday bonus, pay raise, or both, according to a new survey from Bankrate. Of those 22%, Bankrate found a significant political difference: Far more Democrats expect a year-end financial boost than Republicans, to the tune of 32% to 20%. Overall, Bankrate analyst Mike Cetera said that the bleak outlook for year-end bonuses was somewhat unexpected given largely positive economic trends. “I expected the numbers to be higher than they were,” he told Money. Breaking down the differences between Republicans and Democrats further, Cetera said that while both parties reported roughly equal rates of workers expecting raises or bonuses, far more Democrats expect both. Previous Bankrate research has indicated that despite the perception that Republicans are better off financially, they are also more pessimistic and worry more about the state of their finances. There are a few possible hypotheses why this is so. The most likely scenario, according to economist Ken Goldstein is that richer people worry more because they have money to worry about. “If you don’t have enough,” Goldstein told Bankrate, “you know you don’t have enough, so why worry more about it.”

5 Ways to Stand Out In Any Interview

5 Ways to Stand Out In Any Interview Remember, you’re almost never the only person being interviewed for the job. The hiring manager doesn’t know how special and talented you are or what a good fit you’d be unless you show her. And remember, you’re not the only one trying to prove yourself. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1467144145037-0'); }); Here are 5 tips to make sure you give the best first impression possible.Dress for the Career You WantMost new interviewees fidget constantly, tugging at their ill-fitting business-wear. This is immediately distracting and will have an impact on your confidenceâ€"and the interviewer’s confidence in you. Get yourself a good suit that fits you and your style. If you think you look good, you’ll be able to relax and be yourself and focus on selling your abilities. Dress for the career you want, not necessarily the entry-level job you’re applying for!RELATED:  12 HUGE Job Interview Mistakes to AvoidResearch Every Detail About the JobSo many new interviewees come in blind, expecting to learn everything they need to know about the job from the hiring manager. This does not inspire confidence in your abilities or initiative. Instead, make sure you research every detail that you canâ€"about the company and especially about the position. That way, you can prepare to discuss how your particular background and prior experience make you the most excellent choice. Who knows, those years of babysitting or waiting tables might actually be excellent out-of-the-box qualifications that will help you stand out from the pack.Impress Hiring Manager with Your Social SkillsDon’t be a creeper, but it it’s not a bad idea to look around your interviewer’s office for little clues about their interests or hobbies. Maybe they’ve got a diploma from your alma materâ€"look for anything you an use to find some common ground. Just be sure they’re using their own office and you don’t end up complimenting someone else’s children!Be Smar t about the Job You Are Interviewing ForWe’ve all been at the interview that feels like a coffee date. You yammer on for half an hour, but you hardly speak about the job. This can be a sign of good chemistry, but it can also be a trap. Some interviewers might be testing you to see whether you can keep control of the conversation. Try (politely!) steering things back to your eagerness to explain why exactly you’re the best fit for the position. You’ll be surprised how few of your peers are prepared to do the same.Prepare, prepare and prepareSo many young interviewees speak in one word or one sentence answers. Prepare a few example answers to questions youre likely to be asked. Don’t turn your answers into a speech, but make sure that with every one, you’re demonstrating your intelligence and acuity and your suitability for the job. When in doubt, read your interviewer’s body language for signs of interest or boredom, and adjust accordingly.

3 Lessons On Achieving Equal Pay From Salesforces Compensation Audit

3 Lessons On Achieving Equal Pay From Salesforces Compensation Audit The gender wage eu-agrarpolitik is a tricky topic because differences between industries, roles, tenure, performance, career trajectory, hours worked and time off for family make it difficult to say explicitly that women are paid less than men under identical circumstances. Does it exist? According to the White House, a full-time working women earn just 78 cents for every dollar a man earns, on average.Putting aside difficult data issues, many women feel that they are not paid on par with men doing exactly the same work. For example, Fairygodboss conducted a survey belastung year that found a minority (just 39 percent) of women felt they are equally compensated to their male peers.Whether men and women with comparable experience in comparable roles earn the same amount lies only in thetightly protected internal dataof U.S. corporations. Most companies will not deign to open their books to determine whether unequal pay is a reality within their walls, let alone release the results.Thats why the story of the compensation audit undertaken by CEO Marc Benioff at Salesforce is so extraordinary. Prompted by requests from key female executives, Benioff stood up publicly and announced that Salesforce would undertake put his companys reputation on the line to determine whether there welches indeed a pay gap at Salesforce.Even more extraordinary He wholeheartedly accepted the findings that a gender wage gap in comparable roles existed at his company, and he put a plan--with $3 million in funding--in place to resolve it.The well-known story of Salesforces pay gap audit is valuable to hear just on its own merit. But even better is a chance to get pointers directly from the Salesforce team on how other companies can undertake a similar compensation audit.I had a chance to learn more from Cindy Robbins, EVP, in aller herren lnder Employee Success (aka Human Resources) at Salesforce, who was one of the main architects and champions of their work. Here are some tips that Robbins shared about what other companies should know if theyre thinking about undertaking a compensation audit1. Develop a rigorous and objective processMany have observed the difficulty of comparing salaries to determine ritterlichness or equality. But Robbins and her Salesforce team dove into the data to create a quantitative way to standardize and compare compensation data. There are countless numbers of individual variables--for example degree obtained or school attended, says Robbins. Because we wanted to keep the salary assessment as objective as possible, we focused only on where there were statistically significant differences in pay based on objective factors.2. Be Gender NeutralUltimately, the Salesforce work was not just about fair pay for women. It was about fair pay for everyone. Our assessment showed that we needed to adjust some salaries--for both men and women, said Robbins. Approximately 6.6 percent of employees received adjustments, and roughly the same number of women and men were impacted.By including all employees at Salesforce in the scope of the work, Robbins created company-wide support for her initiative. So whats the payoff of a highly public compensation audit? We received positive feedback from our employees who are proud to work for a company that prioritizes equality as a core value, Robbins told us.3. CEO buy-in is a mustRobbins and her colleague, Leyla Seka Senior Vice President and General Manager of Desk.com at Salesforce, built a strong case to persuade Benioff to undertake the compensation audit. Fortunately, Benioff had shown himself to be a strong supporter both of women in the workplace, and also transparency. Its important to understand your companys appetite for transparency, Robbins told us. Im really lucky to work at a company, and for a CEO, that is open to having these conversations and doing what is right. However, not every company has a culture of trans parency.Throughout the process, the strong connection between HRand the CEO was an essential ingredient to success. Says Robbins, If Leyla and I hadnt been able to approach Marc about equal pay, we may never have been able to conduct the audit.Salesforce continues to receive extremely high marks from its female employees. According to scores from its own employees, its one of the highest-ranked companies for women among tech companies.
